Though I was unable to see this movie with the class due to financial reasons, I had already seen it a few weeks ago. Alice is looking for purpose and finds it in Wonderland. She doesn't respond the boys proposal and runs after the white rabbit. Once in Wonderland she still is seeking her true place and doesn't believe what everyone says. She soon figures out that she needs to do something in order to bring down the Red Queen and that so many people are depending on her. She becomes the White Queens champion and slays the Jabberwocky. She finds her place in Wonderland and learns what she wants in her own world based of what she has encountered in this one. Sometimes we need to venture into a world that we know nothing about in order to fully understand our own world. Once she returns to her own world she says that she will not marry the boy, that her sisters husband should take care of her because he is lucky to have her. She finds courage and character in Wonderland and defines herself to be what she wants and not what is expected of her by her family and friends.
The characters in the film aided her in finding her purpose. Everyone doubted her in the beginning except for the Mad Hatter who would sacrifice himself in order to keep her safe. He would then go on to fight along Alice's side in the final battle showing his own depth despite his insanity.
I enjoyed this movie and was quite entertained prior to looking into it for the class but looking at this movie through a different scope gave even more meaning to the experience I had watching it.
