Amadeus (miscellaneous #2)

In my History on Film class we watched Amadeus. It is the the story of Antonio Salieri, who was a great composer for the Austrian government until Mozart came around. Mozart, according to Salieri (the fictional character), stole his fame and glory.
Throughout the film, viewers watch Salieri go through a complex relationship with God. In the beginning he prays to God to help him get famous, which happens. His faith increases correspondingly. Then, as he learns about Mozart, he prays to God to meet this child prodigy. He meets Mozart, and once again he is pleased with God. However, as Mozart begins to steal Salieri's spotlight, he begins to quarrel with God. He blames God for his downfall from fame, and becomes bitter toward Him in the end.
It made me think about how we expect God to fix everything. We are only thankful toward him when something good happens, or we assume that He brings us what we prayed for. Then, we are bitter toward him when we don't see prayers answered, or we think that God abandoned us. Yet, maybe sometimes God gives us answers in ways that we don't expect, and therefore we don't see them. Or maybe He brings us something else instead of what we prayed for; something we needed versus something we wanted, and in our misunderstanding we miss what God wants for us. God is not going to bring us everything we ask for and we should not grow bitter Him for that. We should not expect anything from God, except His love, which we will always have. We should stop looking for signs and just receive them when God wants us to see them. He only wants the best for us, and we are selfish at many times. When we expect something from God, we will only be disappointed, because, most of the time, He has other plans for us.
