For an anthropology class i had to read the book Ishmael. Ishmael is actually a gorilla that an old Jewish man bought and claims that they can communicate. Ishmael claims that the story of Genesis was written by the Semitres, and then later adapted to work within Hebrew and Christian beleifs. He also points out that by living in the hands of the gods, man is subject to the conditions under which evolution takes place. Ishmael also refers to the story of Cain killing Abel and he says it symbolizes a leaver (primitave people) being killed off and their lands taken over so it could be cultivated. Overall this book had a lot of religious connections and
it seemed that Ishmael pondered on everything imaginable that had to do with evolution.
