A Different Beat (reading 3)

A Different Beat by Candy Dawson Boyd is another book I had to read for my course on multicultural literature. It did not have a religious undertone but it had some powerful messages. There is one particular scene that I want to talk about. The main character sees a girl who she dislikes dancing, and she is captivated by the dance. She knows the girl does not want to be seen, so the main character hides to watch. The girl's dance is filled with passion and feeling and the main character is amazed that so much emotion can be put into one's art. I believe that this is a good lesson for everyone. If someone is troubled by something, art is a great means of release. Writing, filming, taking pictures, drawing, painting, singing, dancing...whatever someone likes to do, it can be art, but it can be so much more. And when there is that extra emotion, the art is so much more beautiful.
