final note (miscellaneous #5)

I never imagined how fun a Religion in the Movies class would be. From the very first day I was surprised. To be honest, I had to take this class to fulfill requirements for my film studies minor. I thought I had already fulfilled the required course hours, but I needed just one more class to reach my quota, and I found this out the day before registration. This class was not at the top of my list. As an English major, I didn't need another writing class, and most of the time religion classes bore me because I have either taken a course on the subject already, or the material goes right over my head. Plus this was a writing intensive class and I knew, being 8 months pregnant at the time, that I was not going to want to do all that work after the baby was born. However, this was my only option since I was either enrolled in, or had already taken all the other film courses.
Nevertheless, here we are at the end. I did all of the assignments, and this is the only class where I turned the final paper in on time! It was such a pleasant surprise to find out that we wouldn't be fed mind-numbing documentaries on religion every Monday night. It made me want to go to class, curious as to what film we would be watching next, and how Dr. Redick could magically take a blockbuster hit and turn it into a deep religious connection. As a film studies minor I already dissect film as I am watching them, but now I have a whole new perception as to what is being portrayed. It is amazing that one can do this with almost any film. With this new knowledge, I feel like I can watch films over and over again and still learn something new with each viewing.
