The fall of man in Genesis paints a picture of mans human nature. Our nature is to do what we want, not whats best for us. I know that for myself I constantly stray from the path of what is good for me. Look at Adam and Eve, they just had to do what they were told and not eat the forbidden fruit. I am sure it was not any better than regular fruit but the fact that they were told not to do it goes against human nature of doing what we want to do.
