Andrew Deitrick: The Thin Red Line

The story of the Gita is both a story of inner and outer battle. On one hand, Arjuna is expected to go to battle, this is the outer story. Inwardly, Arjuna is fighting a different battle. Quite simply, he is pondering how he is supposed to act in a world so full of suffering. Krishna speaks unto Arjuna with advice on how to live a sacred life, and Arjuna eventually transcends his personal self.
A parallel of the message of the Gita can be seen by watching Witt. Witt is constantly searching for the answers that Arjuna is looking for. What is life about? How am I supposed to act in this world? Why is there so much suffering?
Ultimately, in his search for a purer life, Witt realizes that to be happy he must look beyond his self. His revelation allows him to be comfortable with the idea of death. He, like Arjuna, transcends the profane and enters a more sacred being.
