Tim Powitz - Red Cliff
Just a few nights ago I watched a Chinese (I think) film called Red Cliff. I was only able to watch the 2nd half because it's 5 hours long. The gist of the story is this: there is a war going on, and so far the bad guys have the advantage. The advantage lies with the wind. Because this is set in ancient times, everything is made of wood. The plan for the protagonists is to wait until the wind is in their favor, and then attack with Kamikaze-like warfare by sailing flaming ships into the enemy base. The wind behind then will blow the fire deeper into the base. If the wind is not in their favor, then fire will barely spread. What I am trying to say is that there is a divine aspect to the wind in this film. The wind is the crucial element to the attack. It sets and changes the entire course of battle. Its direction is literally a life and death situation. So how do we view nature in today's world? Do we really step and notice the effect of nature? Our bodies are built to react to sunlight and cloudiness. When it is dark, we get tired. We need vitamins from sunlight. Do we also believe in a divine intervention with nature? Like today, did God sent us a rainy day so we can get caught up on blogs, reply essays, and other various assignment? In a more deist view, Did God create nature in such a way that it would give us rainy work day this far into the future? How can we apply this to other aspects of life? I personally believe that God has the ability to send a rainy day to CNU for the end of semester workload. I also believe that God can intervene in our lives as well, even if it's just finding a parking spot. Just the other I was driving and kind of jokingly said, "Oh Lord, help me find a parking space..." Then what do you know but a car begins to back up that moment. Kind of cool right? What does God control in your life on a day to day basis?
