Emily Walker: Mixed Movies

I enjoyed the day that we watched short clips from lot's of different movies. You assigned us a process to work through trying to understand the concepts in each film.
The first movie that we watched an excerpt from was called Bunny. This clip was very visually exciting. The visuals fit well with the music and the lighting reinforced the story line. The Bunny's eyes also told alot about the story. I like the idea of the moth being the escort into the afterlife. Death was not the theme I had expected to come out of the film clip.

We also watched a clip of Paris Texas. This clip used the desert as a symbol for nothingness and being alone. Everything is in straight lines in the clip. Everything is also moving West. The billboards represented communication. The whole clip was a little hard to follow plot wise but it was jam packed with great symbols and imagery.

The Wall was a very interesting clip to me. I really did not understand it at all. Only when we talked about it did I start to see some of the symbols in it. What I got from it is that it is about a man who felt like he lived under the eye of everyone and that no one wanted him to succeed. One of the main themes in this clip seemed to be judgement. The images in this film tended to be very over the top and grotesque. The reason I think this was, was to make a point and to draw the viewer in.
