Eric Saxon - Thin Red Line
The film took place on a small island during the Pacific phase of World War 2. The film depicted a group of soldiers coping with the horrors of war. The scenery in the movie was amazing. The scenes in the jungle showed how warfare greatly affects nature and wildlife. The war represented the profane, while nature represented the sacred. Some soldiers were more than willing to kill and risk being killed, while other soldiers were more reserved and did not want to participate in direct combat. The scene that showed two wild dogs eating the bodies of dead soldiers showed the barbarity of war. One may ask, "Why resort to war?" The film was unlike any war movie I have ever seen. The film was more philosophical and pointed to a larger meaning, other than violence and death.
