Jared Free – “Paris, Texas” Clip
The first few scenes of “Paris, Texas” show a man who seems to have lost all purpose in life. He is hopeless, and seems to have resigned himself to dying in the desert as he drops his water and makes no effort to pick it back up; his facial expression is empty. The theme of the film seems to be communication. There are many different images which represent communication; power lines, roads, railroad tracks, even shoes. All of them are laid out in straight parallel lines and whenever they’re present our main character seems to be following them. At one point the two brothers are standing in front of two very distinguishable mountains. One brother is framed by a typical green, lush mountain; the other by a rocky, dry and rugged landscape. The most interesting scene in the movie for me was when he was walking across the bridge and sees a man shouting to no one; it really put ‘crazy’ in perspective.
