Jared Free – Religion in Film
I really enjoyed this course. I’ve always loved watching movies and this was my primary motivation for taking the class in the first place. I’ve developed a much greater appreciation for the films I’ve always loved, though, and have learned to really see, or at least look for, everything that is going on in a movie; rather than just trying to follow the general story. I’ve also gained a much greater appreciation for how tedious a filmmaker’s work is. Everything, from the background of every scene, to whether or not an actor is standing in front of parallel or horizontal lines, to the ornaments hanging from a rear view mirror is significant and must be taken into account. Analyzing movies, to a certain extent, and trying to identify themes and messages has allowed me to really enjoy movies on a completely different level than ‘was it entertaining or not.’
