I just went and saw the movie Oceans, the Disney production similar to Planet Earth. This movie was truly fascinating. The viewer was able to see sea-life up close as if you were there and witnessing it firsthand. I found myself multiple times throughout the movie mouth wide open just memorized by these absolutely beautiful creatures and how they are able to survive underwater. Although I know these animals have the adaptations to survive in circumstances like this, it still seems to amaze me.
After the movie was over, I found myself wondering why I am a human. Why didn’t God put me on earth as a seal or a hermit crab or a shark? It’s so easy to forget the beauty of nature and the mysteriousness of the deep dark sea that this was a reminder of. After seeing this movie, I feel as if the ocean is one of the great world wonders. The parts that are untouched by man are gorgeous. However, it also made sure to point out that there is pollution and debris in the ocean, not because of the animals, but because of us as humans. There was one clip where they showed an animal swimming around a shopping cart under water. Why in the world would someone EVER put a shopping cart in any body of water? Unless it was by some sort of mistake, that is just pure laziness. Why must innocent animals suffer from humans’ lack of respect of the environment?
I have always enjoyed swimming in the ocean, but this movie takes on a stronger reality of what the ocean actually is. Not only does it remind you of what is really out in the continuous blue waters, but it shows how we as humans are also destroying the necessities for some of these animals to survive. Polar bears are one the most shown animals whose natural habitat is being destroyed. As powerful as we are as humans, it seems as if there must be something we can do to save these creatures from losing their homes.
