This movie really shows the futility of war. Here we have these men fighting for dirty basically, not understanding why they are in the situation they are in, and having to face their own mortality early because of someone else's poor choices. I wonder again how this related back to the Hindu traditions...I am just utterly off put by all the killing. I don't think I could fight for my country honestly. And that might seem cowardly, and if it is, so be it.
I think the message of the film is perhaps to live in the moment. As one soldier put it to another "There is no world other than this one, just this moment, just this rock." Perhaps it is commentary on those that dream and those who live in what they perceive to be reality. The entire thing seems quite arbitrary to me. The soldiers seem to think so as well, "Who is to decide who is going die and who is going to live, one asks?" You can sense the futility of their plea.
