Alice in Wonderland - Eric Saxon

Although I did not think I would like this film, I ended up rather enjoying it. The film we viewed was more modern than the older one, which appealed to a newer audience. The fact that Alice was 19 years old appeals to an older audience, unlike the older version that was more of a kid's movie. One thing I found interesting was the differences between the two queens. The red queen was the evil one, while the white queen was the good one. Traditionally, red symbolizes evil, while white symbolizes good. This can also be seen in the many depictions of heaven and hell. At the beginning of the film Alice was being forced to marry a man she did not want to. She does not like the society she would have to live in if she ends up marrying the man. However, after returning from Wonderland, Alice decides to take charge of her own life and live the way she wants to. I believe this references existentialism. At first, Alice was afraid to shape her own identity, allowing others to tell her how to live her life. At the end of the movie, Alice decides that she needs to form her own identity, making her own decisions to shape her character.
