Eric Saxon - Northfork
The movie takes place in a small Montana town that will soon be flooded by a dam. The residents of the town are all told to evacuate. However, many citizens refuse to leave their homes. A group of men are hired in order to convince the remaining residents to leave. There are many aspects of religion in this film. One such aspect is the man who builds an ark that he believes will protect him from the flood. The man states that God will protect him from drowning. This is a direct correlation with the biblical story of Noah and his ark. A sick little boy is also a major character in the film. The boy believes that he is the lost angel that a group of angels are looking for. Throughout the film, the boy tries to convince the angels to take him to heaven with them. One thing that I found interesting was how the angels looked. They were not like the typical angels one would expect. They looked like ordinary people. However, each angel had his or her own unique qualities. I believe the director was trying to show that angels do not have to be stereotypical. They can look just like any other human. Thus, angels can be among us without us even realizing it. Another thing I noticed was the coloring of the film. The film was set in a dark and gloomy atmosphere. I believe that this was intended to show the viewer that even in the most dire of circumstances (the flooding of the town), miracles can happen.
