Daniel Gordon - External Reading #4 Galations 5:1

The other day, while I was reading my Bible, Galatians 5:1 jumped out at me. It says

1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

I feel like the theme of slavery is one that can be very easily related to religion in film. Sin is a yoke of slavery that we choose to submit ourselves to and be burdened by. Likewise, characters in many movies, like the people surrounding the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland with the fake over-sized body parts. They choose to be burdened by big plastic noses, ears, and bellies, because they want to be accepted by the queen; they think it would be fun; or they are trying to fit in with everyone else. These are the same reasons we enter into many sins. We think it would be fun, or we just want to fit in, but we end up burdening ourselves. In the same way the hatter unburdens the people of their fake over-sized body parts, Christ's death can unburden us of our sin.
